Doogles Donuts to Host Event in Support of Yellow House

The new Doogles Donuts store in Mann Island is inviting guests to join them from 6pm on Thursday March 30th for a special event in support of local charity The Yellow House.

The event will take place on International Yellow Day, an annual celebration which marks the birthdate of artist Vincent Van Gogh.

George Mckane, founder of The Yellow House explained why Van Gogh is so important to the charity, saying:

“Yellow House is inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s House in Arles. This is where Vincent lived and worked, with his door always open so people could see that the artist is a vital part of the community. Vincent also suffered most of his life from isolation, loneliness and depression – our mission at Yellow House is to support people suffering with mental health issues through art and creativity. This will be my last ever performance and marks nearly 40 years of dedicating my life to young people and art.”

Doogles Donut’s founder Christian Anderson is a long time supporter of The Yellow House having been a member himself for 16 years, before eventually becoming the Creative Director of the charity. He explains why the charity is so close to his heart:

“Yellow House is a unique local youth organisation founded in the 1980s by George McKane. The team support young people in our local communities, giving them the opportunity to not only to develop their own social and personal skills but also to live independently in today’s world. I’ve personally worked with hundreds of young people with mental health issues who through The Yellow House have been given the opportunity to get involved in numerous creative projects, and witnessing their personal growth is staggering.”

Doogles currently have stores across the city including Prescot, Kirkby and Lark Lane, and are currently in the process of fitting out their first purpose-built production unit. This event will be hosted by George and The Yellow House team on the 30th March at the new Doogles store on Mann Island, which opened earlier this year.

“We’re excited to welcome our customers and local supporters of The Yellow House to this free event. All we ask is that those attending wear or carry something yellow to celebrate creativity and the life of Vincent Van Gough, we will also have sunflower donuts available to purchase of which all proceeds will be donated to the charity.”

The event will begin at 6pm and finish at 8pm. No reservation required, just please wear something YELLOW.
