Liverpool got back to winning ways in the Premier League against Tottenham after back-to-back defeats saw them closer to the relegation zone than the top four.
Mo Salah scored twice in the first half to put Jurgen Klopp’s side in a commanding position after the break which was when Tottenham bombarded the visitors with pressure.
Harry Kane got a goal with 20 minutes to go but Antonio Conte’s side could not find an equaliser meaning that Liverpool moved up to eighth place, seven points off the top four.
Klopp went with his favoured 4-3-3 system with Roberto Firmino back in the false nine and Darwin Nunez on the left flank.

The chaos that the Uruguayan international brought to the game was on show within the first ten minutes as he was found in-behind on the left on two occasions forcing Hugo Lloris into a strong handed save to stop his volley from flying in.
He was then crucial in the opening goal as Andy Robertson’s cross found Nunez and he took a delicate touch before finding Salah who fired the ball into the right corner giving Lloris no chance at all.
Spurs grew into the game shortly after the opening goal with Ivan Perisic hitting the post with a header but Salah made them pay again with five minutes to go until the interval.
Alisson played a long ball forward which only found Eric Dier but his attempted header back to Lloris put The Egyptian through on goal and he dinked it audaciously over the onrushing goalkeeper.
In the second half Liverpool tried to maintain control of the game but when Conte brought on Dejan Kulusevski who slipped Kane in between Ibrahim Konate and Virgil Van Dijk allowing him to shoot first time beating Alisson impressively from a tight angle.
The Reds had already had a warning earlier on in the half as Perisic again hit the woodwork but with twenty to go Liverpool were on the ropes.
They sat back soaking up everything Spurs gave them even resorting to a back five when Joe Gomez came on however it was just about enough.
Klopp’s side showed attacking flair in the first half and great defensive resilience in the second to get their first away win of the season in the league.
Next weekend is the last round of fixtures before the month break for the World Cup and Liverpool have Southampton at home who may have a new manager with various reports stating that Ralph Hasenhuttl will be sacked but The Saints may wait to make the change.
