The Liverpool Beatles Museum has been busy over the last couple of months, and wanted to share what is new at the venue.
John Lennon’s ‘War is Over’ postcard sent to Harold Wilson
The Lennon’s started their peace movement during their honeymoon in March of 1969 having decided to use their fame and influence to promote peace in the world. The museum was delighted to receive this piece of history from their “War is Over” poster campaign which saw them display billboard posters in 12 major cities of the world and give out cards and fliers to promote their message.
This card to the former Prime Minister Harold Wilson and his wife was delivered in December of 1969. Harold Wilson’s custom was to check the mail and annotate in green ink how he wished his secretary to respond. On this occasion Wilson wrote “No” indicating that he did not wish to reply!
The card went on display here at the Liverpool Beatles Museum on 21st April 2022 after being unveiled by Beatles insider Tony Bramwell.
Paul McCartney’s Cavern Club Setlist
To celebrate Paul’s 80th Birthday the museum was delighted to unveil our latest addition, a setlist from Paul McCartney’s December 1999 show at the iconic Cavern Club.
Paul appeared on the Cavern stage for his last ever concert of the 20th Century in December of 1999 with his band featuring David Gilmour, Mick Green, Ian Paice, Pete Wingfield and Ian Hall.
Roag Best remembers, “I was standing backstage with my dad and we were talking to Paul. Paul was waving the setlist about as we spoke and I asked him if I could have it. Really? he said. So, I said please and he gave it to me.” And here it is at the one and only Liverpool Beatles Museum, Mathew Street.
