Energy and Construction specialists Ecogee play pivotal role in the region’s bid to combat fuel poverty

Energy and Construction specialists Ecogee play pivotal role in the region’s bid to combat fuel poverty

Energy and Construction specialists Ecogee are playing a pivotal role in the region’s bid to combat fuel poverty by installing energy saving measures in more than 600 homes.

As part of the impressive total, the firm, which was established in 2012 in response to the Government’s Energy Efficiency Programme, is currently working in partnership with Sefton Council under the LAD2 (Local Authority Delivery Scheme) up until June to carry out insulation work at over 200 properties across Sefton with a work value of £2million.

This includes 85 properties receiving external wall insulation and a further 125 homes that have other energy saving measures fitted such as loft top ups, cavity wall insulation, under floor insulation, solar panels, double glazed windows and smart heating controls to name a few.

Ecogee, led by Managing Directors Brendan Helm and Lee Kissock, has quickly become a leading provider energy saving grants across the North West.

Brendan said: “The only long-term answer to rising and unaffordable fuel prices is to fully insulate a person’s home and to keep what heat they have in. Whilst any government can offer a short-term fix, if we are serious about reducing fuel poverty and at the same time reducing our carbon footprint, we need to insulate our homes better.

“We are extremely passionate about what we do and are keen to do whatever we can to help the country’s fuel poverty crisis. We have just been appointed the principal contractor by Sefton Council for LAD3, which will run from July through to the end of March 2023, with the expectation that Ecogee will fit more than 300 energy saving measures into yet more homes, at a cost of more than £3million.”

The team, based in Aintree, is also working with The Prima Housing Group on delivery of energy saving measures for Wave 1 of the Government Social Housing Decarbonation Fund (SHDF), which sees Ecogee working on more than 100 properties across Liverpool and Wirral.

Wave 2 of the SHDF will be released later in the year with the partners hoping to secure a further £8million worth of funding over the next three years.

Brendan added: “Over the course of last year, we completed more than 1,200 installs and for each project we sourced the best workers our area had to offer, regularly linking with over 50 local contractors and small businesses.

“In February, we were appointed to the Fusion21 £750M decarbonisation framework, which is a massive honour for us; especially considering the majority of those awarded were larger national organisations. We like to think that our deep-rooted connection to the region and our 10-year dedication to combating the fuel crisis played a part in this selection.

“It’s certainly a stressful thought that our energy bills could keep on rising, with too many people across the North West already experiencing fuel poverty. But frameworks such as these mean that we can do our bit to help the region with its fight against climate change and fuel poverty while securing the future of our children, communities, and heritage.”
