Liverpool player ratings: West Ham finally end Liverpool’s 25 game unbeaten streak

Jurgen Klopp’s men were well and truly humbled at the London Stadium as David Moyes’ West Ham continued their unbelievable start to the season.

It was a day to forget for the travelling Reds and for the majority of the starting eleven as it was a very poor showing from the side who are meant to be one of the title favourites.

Alisson had a torrid afternoon as the first goal was an own goal, the second went straight through him from Pablo Fornals and then he was caught in no man land from another corner as Kurt Zouma nodded home.

However, his teammates did not help him out as it was a very disjointed performance with West Ham in control throughout the 90 mins.

Player ratings

Alisson Becker: 2

One of his most forgettable games for Liverpool. Was not strong enough from the corner which led to West Ham scoring, and it went down as an own goal for the Brazilian as he flapped at it. Could have been given as a foul and Jurgen Klopp believes that to be the case. Really poor for the second goal as he is normally so strong one-on-one however the ball squirmed through him. Another corner caught him out for the third as he didn’t know whether to come for the ball or stay on his line, in the end he did neither.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 7.5

Exquisitely placed free kick to drag Liverpool level. Got the assist for Divock Origi’s late consolation goal. Left the defence open but in fairness to him that is the midfields job to protect the centre backs. Should have got another assist at the end with his superb delivery on Sadio Mane’s head.

Joel Matip: 4

West Ham toyed with him all game running in-behind him at almost every opportunity. Weak in the challenge in the build-up for Fornals’ goal.

Virgil Van Dijk: 7

Sublime challenge to stop Jarrod Bowen from scoring to make it 2-1 in the first half. Stopped Bowen again in the second half when one-on-one with him. Harsh to put blame on him for the second goal as Matip was the one who should have stopped the source of the attack.

Andy Robertson: 3

Still not at his best as he wasted a lot of crossing opportunities. Tireless but that could be the issue as he has been putting in tireless performances non-stop for around three years now.

Fabinho: 5

Did not help the defence at all when that is his job. Lost four ground duels which is not like him at all.

Jordan Henderson: 5

300th Premier League game for Liverpool which is some achievement. However, it was a mediocre performance. Struggled to create anything with West Ham’s low block doing well. Did not help the defence out enough either.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 4

Struggles when the game is at a slow pace and showed that today. Did not have space to work with which nullifies his game. Offered very little.

Mo Salah: 6

Was the only one who looked dangerous in the second half using his dancing feet to try and work a yard of space to create a chance for himself. West Ham done well to stop him as at least three players surrounded him every time he was on the ball.

Diogo Jota: 4

Had a couple of efforts off target but did not look threatening at all. Didn’t give the West Ham backline enough to worry about.

Sadio Mane: 3

Wasted two massive chances. A volley straight at Lukas Fabianski at the start of the second half which could have given Liverpool the lead. He then headed a sitter wide in stoppage time which could have scraped a point for Klopp’s side to take home.

Substitutions:

Thiago (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 69): 2

Was a dreadful cameo to be brutally honest. Did not help Liverpool in the slightest as he lost possession sloppily a tedious number of times.

Divock Origi (Diogo Jota 76): 6

Took his goal extremely well and gave Liverpool some sort of hope. Could be needed from the start in future games due to his natural finishing abilities.

Takumi Minamino (Fabinho 80): 2

Failed to make an impact which is hard to do in ten minutes anyway.
