Liverpool DJs made history last night at the UK’s first hybrid, 5G powered club night, EE x Beatport Presents Parallel.
Hosted across two separate nightlife venues – Liberté Rooftop and Matou Roof Terrace – EE and Beatport brought together back-to-back performances from local Liverpudlian legends – DJs Yousef x Melé, Lauren Lo Sung x Siân Bennett, plus sets from special guests James Organ and Baxter – in a first-of-its-kind performance.
In an exciting twist for fans in attendance, and for those who tuned into the 5G powered livestream, Lauren Lo Sung x Siân Bennett, and DJs Yousef x Melé, tag-teamed live across the two venues via the UK’s best network, providing an electric night of entertainment.
The epic night of dance harnessed the power of EE’s award-winning 5G public network, which offered the low latency and superfast speeds needed to mix two live sets together. Crowds at each venue didn’t miss a moment of action, enjoying the epic back-to-back sets through a real-time full 1080p HD video and audio feed at each location. Over EE’s 5G network, which ensured a consistent bandwidth throughput of 8MB, an upload of 25 frames per second were beamed onto screens across locations, so fans caught every beat drop of each DJ’s set.
Pete Jeavons, Marketing Communications Director at EE said:
“We put the power of our network in the hands of the professionals, and together we made history. Pushing the limits of what has been done before, mixing live sets together from two different locations, to host an epic evening of entertainment that gave dance fans even more enjoyment. We’ve shown the potential of what 5G connectivity can unlock, and that’s a whole new world of collaboration and entertainment.”

“I’m constantly pushing myself to try new things as a DJ, but tonight was something else. It was challenging and exhilarating and to be honest it stretched me. Getting the vibe right when you’re playing next to someone is one thing but going back-to-back with another DJ who is in a completely different location, where you can’t see their CDJ or where the track finishes was crazy. It was like doing a back-to-back blindfolded!! But you’ve just got to trust your instincts, and of course trust Melé who was excellent, and the connection of the network, to pull that sort of thing off. All the while, giving the audience everything – there is a reason people haven’t tried this before, but I’m glad it was worth it. I really enjoyed that experience.”
Ed Hill, VP of Beatport Media Group said:
“Our mission is to connect electronic music lovers with the world’s best music via the very latest tools in technology – and with EE’s 5G network we delivered that in spades. Together with some of the hottest names in dance, we offered fans a back-to-back experience that shows what is possible in the live events space.”
