In edition seventeen of our ‘Faces behind the Business’ series, we caught up with Alex Frech aged 41, founder of  Good Liverpool; a curated marketplace of Liverpool’s finest independents.

When did you first get into the industry? 

I worked in retail many years ago however we first started talking about Good Liverpool in early 2020.

How long have you worked at Good Liverpool and what is your job role? 

My colleague and I came up with the idea for Good Liverpool in March 2020 and at the time was a direct response to the pandemic. The idea originally was to help retailers with a voucher system that people would be able to buy online. Thankfully that idea evolved into something much bigger. My role varies, but ultimately I’m here to guide the business in whatever form that takes.

What is Good Liverpool’s ethos?

How we work and our ambitions have changed over time, however we feel that ‘good’ lies deep at the heart of what we do. From working with good suppliers and products, good ways of doing business and obviously supporting good. It’s simple but if done well can be extremely effective.

What’s the best bit of advice you could give to anyone looking at working in your line of work?

By day, I run a creative studio also based in Liverpool called Black&Ginger, which I have run for almost 18 years now. With Good Liverpool I was keen to try something different, take myself out of my comfort zone and trust my instinct more. To do this takes a lot of commitment and a certain element of risk, however if you believe in something maybe you should just do it. Always think what’s the worst that can happen.

What do you love most about Liverpool?

As a foremost creative/business person, Liverpool ticks a lot of boxes for me. A hive of creative minds that have options and aren’t afraid to share and stand out, set against a city that has thrived on a global scale, that can equally thrive again once more. 

If you could describe your business in 3 words what would they be?

Quality, community, good.
