Liverpool Football Club have presented a special cheque for £56,000 virtually to the Owen McVeigh Foundation.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the cheque presentation took a different format this year, with Billy Hogan, Trustee of the LFC Foundation and managing director of Liverpool FC, taking part in a special video call to virtually hand over the cheque to Owen’s father, Mark.
The cheque follows the sale of a very special limited-edition Owen McVeigh Foundation range, which includes a mug, keyring, caps and hoodies, a magnet and pin badge, as well as a striking red t-shirt, which was sold through the club’s three Liverpool stores and online.
All profits from the sale of the range were donated to the Foundation set up in memory of 11-year old Owen, who tragically passed away shortly after being diagnosed with leukaemia in December 2015.
His father, Mark, established the Owen McVeigh Foundation, which aims to enrich the lives of local children suffering with cancer by providing them and their families with money-can’t-buy-experiences.
Mark said: “I can’t put into words just what it means to receive the level of support we do from LFC, it’s driven everything that we have done right from the start. We really appreciate donations like this and will go a long way to ensuring we can continue the important work that we do.
“In Owen’s name and memory, I just want to say a huge thank you to all the Liverpool FC fans and the club as a whole for having our back and helping us get through some tough times, and giving these children some lovely experiences to look forward to.”
Billy Hogan, managing director and chief commercial officer, said: “Being able to present this cheque is a huge testament to the constant support shown by our fans to the Owen McVeigh Foundation, and its our pleasure to be able to virtually present this cheque to Mark today.
“We’re incredibly proud to be able to support such a worthy cause and we will continue to back the incredible work that the Foundation is doing to provide special experiences for local children and their families during a difficult time in their life.”
