Liverpool’s official national day of celebration, Global Scouse Day is back for 2020!

Friday 28th February marks the annual celebration of the city of Liverpool, primarily based around everybody’s favourite stew.

Whether it be meat or veggie, bars, cafes and restaurants in Liverpool and around the world put scouse on the menu for the day. It doesn’t stop there either, scouse is also served in Liverpool schools, hospitals and on virgin trains nationwide.

So the question is, how did Global Scouse Day begin?

The story goes that Global Scouse Day began with a ‘Scouse Supper’ with friends held every year on Liverpudlian adventurer Graham Hughes’s birthday. When he left the country in December 2008, Laura Worthington (of Laura’s Little Bakery fame) thought it would be fun to continue the tradition in his absence.

Over the following five years, Global Scouse Day grew from a small gathering to an event that captured the city’s imagination. With over 100 bars, restaurants and cafes putting the hearty dish on their menus on 28th February, support also came from the Lord Mayor of Liverpool as well as Everton and Liverpool football clubs.

Since then the day of celebrations has became an annual fixture, raising funds for R Charity, The Whitechapel Centre, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, while also providing free food to the city’s homeless.

The event has even spread worldwide, with venues as far a field as the US and Australia putting scouse on the menu for the day!

To help you get your scouse on this year, Global Scouse Day have provided not only information of how to make scouse, they have also provided a list of venues in Liverpool and around the world that are serving scouse on Friday 28th February.
