Liverpool FC Champions of Europe 2019

  • June 3, 2019

After a victorious night in Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Liverpool Football Club are now Champions of Europe for a 6th time in the club’s historic campaign.

After the high of one amazing night where thousands of travelling Liverpool fans watched the mighty reds conquer Tottenham Hotspur on Spanish territory, we though the atmosphere could not be topped, but boy was we wrong!

The city became a sea of red when thousands gathered from every age to welcome home not only the kings of the Kop, but also the holy grail of silverware back where it rightfully belongs.

Before the LFC players had even touched down on home soil, fans where already filling the streets adorning the clubs colour red from flags to scarfs and chants of the famous songs about the club players and the beloved ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, the town was definitely painted red.

An estimated 750,000 people attended the victory parade, with Merseyside Police thanking the thousands who celebrated in the city this weekend.

Superintendent Mark Wiggins said: “During today’s homecoming more than 750,000 lined the city’s streets to welcome home the Champions of Europe.

“Again, the people of Liverpool and supporters of Liverpool Football Club showed why Liverpool is one of the most vibrant cities in the country.

“The atmosphere in the city today and during last night’s Champions League Final in Madrid was palpable and the fantastic turnout was testament to those who turned out to support the team and show the city of Liverpool in a positive light around the world.”

Jurgen Klopp was a picture of the cat who got the cream and rightfully so, for his achievement with the club this weekend puts his name up there with legendary managers such as Bob Paisley, Bill Shankly and Rafael Benitez. Klopp soaked up the euphoric atmosphere, at one point a near slight topple on the bus! It’s fair to say his heart is as big as the city.

Klopp told LFC TV: “I have cried a little bit. When you see how much it means to people.

“You see it in their eyes, how much it means, it’s intense.”

The joyous scenes around the city also seen the squad join in with fans singing and cheering, with the Champions League trophy on full show as the parade travelled around various points of the city including Queens Drive, to finishing at The Strand.

From the thousands who travelled by air, land and sea to Madrid, to the vast number of fans who lined the streets of Liverpool, the memories will live on for generations with a fair few tales to tell, one in particular Let’s talk about six baby……
