World Museum – England’s most visited museum outside of London for 2018

  • April 1, 2019

Recent figures have revealed that Liverpool’s World Museum was the most visited museum in England outside of London for 2018. The statistics provided that out of England’s top four museums outside of London, three are in Liverpool, with the venues welcoming a massive 4,114,135 across all eight locations for 2018.

With ALVA representing the UK’s largest visitor attractions, the 2018 list that includes theme parks, zoos, stately homes as well as museums and galleries, shows the figures have seen an 111% increase for World Museum since 2017.

With the overwhelming success of China’s First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors, it has been its busiest year ever attracting more than 610,000 visitors. Staggering figures made it one of the greatest attended exhibitions in the UK, catapulting the World Museum up 30 places in the rankings.

The figures by Association of Leading Visitor Attractions also revealed tremendous triumph for other National Museums Liverpool venues. Other successful venues included the Museum of Liverpool which power faulted up nine places making it England’s third most visited museum outside of London, the Merseyside Maritime Museum was the fourth most visited.

Liverpool welcomed a whole roster of amazing exhibitions last year including Double Fantasy-John & Yoko, Slaves of Fashion: New Works by The Singh Twins, the biannual celebration of contemporary painting and array of diverse and exciting programme of exhibitions and events made in partnership with the Arts Council Collection.

Boosting the local economy by more than £83 million, the city hopes to build on this success for 2019 and years to come.
